Singer/songwriter Terry Burns, youngest of the famed Burns Sisters, has recently relocated to Ithaca from Nashville, TN. Terry joined the Burns Sisters Band when the group consisted of five sisters and signed with SBK and Columbia Records. When that contract ended with a change in management, Terry drove to Nashville with $400 and embarked on a solo career. Her deals evolved from waiting tables to publishing through EMI, MCA/Universal, and Large Vista Music, and cuts with David Kersh and Lari White. Like many artists before and after Terry, the move to independent recording was natural. Her self-titled Cd demonstrates an ability to lyrically capture the complexities of today's women with a universal appeal. Terry is joined by husband Ron Kristy for a set of the Cd material.
Vocalist Diana Leigh will perform the second set of Saturday's show, backed by Jim Scarpulla, piano and Bernie Upson, bass. Born to a musical family in Woodstock, NY (her father was a jazz trumpeter and classical French horn player), Diana has been performing blues, rock, folk, country, reggae and a cappella for over two decades, but her heart and soul is in the jazz standards of the 20s through 50s. Since moving to Ithaca in the 80s, Diana has been heard performing with The Little Big Band, the Blue Blazers, Sugar Moon, the Riveters, and the Under Tones. Today she is most recognized with her dance band Crazy Rhythm, dazzling audiences for over a decade throughout New York State, Baltimore, Philadelphia, DC, Boston, and Hartford. Diana's swinging sense of phrasing and lush tones pay tribute to one of this country's best musical traditions. The trio will kick off a jam session following the broadcast, inclusive to both jazz and original songwriting . |
